Beautifully presented B and B. Spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast. Very friendly owners. Good communication throughout. We had rooms 1 and 2. 2 is described as cozy and it is on the small side but has everything you need. Short walk into the centre of Whitby - restaurants, shops etc, but be aware it is quite a hill to go down to town and therefore a climb to get back. On street parking which we had no trouble finding.
Tips:Lovely walk along the beach to Sandsend when the tide is out.

A comfortable, clean and spacious bedroom. Bathroom a bit small - would’ve been awkward for larger people to move around easily. Good location just a few minutes from beach and town centre. Very nice breakfast. Friendly, welcoming service.

Five minute walk into town, lovely room, delicious breakfast and friendly hosts. Everything was spotlessly clean and the fresh bed linen smelt lovely. Thank you for your warm hospitality Simon and Lane - and for the amazing weather :)
Tips:Based on the fact that we are Bram Stoker fans, Whitby did not disappoint. Our favourite shop was the gothic Den of Antiquity, our food highlights were the fish and chips at Mister Chips, pork and stuffing rolls from The Greedy Pig and the best Sunday roast we've ever eaten at The Crown in Hutton-le-Hole. The North Yorkshire moors are breath-taking and it was certainly worth the five hour drive. It was a wonderful weekend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay with you. You were both wonderful hosts and were so helpful and assistive. Our breakfasts were just lovely. The fruit, very fresh and the full English were excellent. The room was very comfortable and just what we required. Haven't felt as long or as well for some while!!! Thank you.
Tips:Whitby is such a vibrant place and Whitehaven is so well positioned to enjoy all of it. It's a 10 minute walk to the centre and a 5 minute walk to the "whale bone". Our preferred restaurants were Crocodile, a lovely tapas and Trenchers for the obligatory fish and chips!! Monmatra is a bespoke little wine bar near the old market which was quaint and atmospheric.

A lovely property, exceptionally clean and really well maintained. On top of this Simon, Lane and the team are very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Whitehaven Guest House. We’ve stayed in a number of B&B’s in Whitby over the past few years and this is definitely the best.
Tips:Visit Pannet Park, only a very short stroll away and so often overlooked as everyone focusses on the Abbey, Harbour etc.

Lovely guest house. Very tastefully decorated and extremely clean. Simon and Laine are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Good choice for breakfast and quality of food. We were made to feel very welcome and at home.
Tips:We weren't on a tourist trip on this occasion. However, we did visit Sneaton Castle for the first time and I would highly recommend a visit there, it's beautiful and the food is wonderful. Also on the food front, you can't go wrong for fish, but my recommendation would be Royal Fisheries and the Fisherman's Wife. Lots of things to do and see in the town. The tour bus might be a good idea for first time visitors, to get a feel of the place.

We really enjoyed our stay. Room 1 is spacious and has a lovely view of the Abbey in the distance. The breakfast was great and set us up for the day. Friendly owners who on our arrival even explained how the TV and satellite worked in our room. Great service.
Tips:Whitby town centre is a short walk. This was our first visit to Whitby so we enjoyed visiting the Abbey and climbing the 199 steps! We visited during Folk week so added bonus of live impromptu music in the pubs. If you like traditional pubs try the Fleece and the Station Inn. Plenty of good seafood to eat too.

Facilities were excellent and it was very handy having a wash basin in the room. Breakfast was superb with a great choice. Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.
Tips:Great choice of fish and chip restaurants but our favourite was the Royal Fisheries, recommended to us by our family. For a special night out the Star Inn is beautiful. Delicious food at the Hart Inn in Sandsend. Plenty to do in Whitby, the Abbey, boat trips, children's pool, great shops and lovely villages not too far away.

Very hospitable and helpful proprietors, so welcoming. Lovely guest house one of the best we have visited in our short trips over the years. The bed was so comfortable and the en-suit bathroom small but beautiful.
Tips:The main harbour lots going on, chip shop/fish restaurant on every corner, little boat trips, fishing trips for anglers. Shops for all, clothes, trinkets, antiques etc. A walk to the abbey is worth a visit. The main beach and promenade is a must. I would advise comfortable footwear as walking down to the harbour is fine but walking back up to the crest and promenade is slightly more challenging (ha ha ha).

Lovely guest house - friendly and welcoming hosts - the place was spotless. Delicious breakfast with good variety of choice. Short walk to the main town but something we enjoyed, taking in the atmosphere. Would highly recommend staying here
Tips:You must visit the 199 steps and the Abbey and St. Mary's Church (amazing inside)- also a nice stop off point at the top is the Whitby Brewery garden with outside seating. There are so many restaurants and cafes in Whitby all of fantastic quality that you dont really need to leave Whitby but if you do fancy a day out you must visit Robin Hood's Bay. Also if the sun is shining then the sandy beaches are a must!

Tips:Magpie and trenches are the most popular restaurants but can be a nightmare to get in as they are so popular but don't worry about trying other restaurants as they were fine too... lovely little quaint streets and shops across the bridge in cobbled streets nice to walk round...alot of hills so maybe not suitable for the elderly etc

At our age you need to go to the toilet at least once in the night, so privatising the bathroom of room 4 would be more convenient. Then I wouldn't need to get dressed to go for a w**.
Tips:All rooms have been updated during lockdown so everything is brand spanking new. Ate at The Granby (traditional pub) and The Resolution (bit more upmarket) both were very good.

Really enjoyed the stay, no complaints about anything. Room and bathroom were all clean and tidy with a tea and coffee tray provided, also a hairdryer. The location is ideal on Whitby West Cliff - our room had views of the sea and the abbey. The breakfast was tasty and filling with local ingredients and the owners and other guests were careful to operate within Covid distancing requirements. All in all I'd have no hesitation in recommending it to others looking for accommodation in Whitby, and we hope to go back soon

Simon and Lane were extremely welcoming. Th perfect hosts. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Whitehaven to friends and family in fact we already have.
Tips:There is loads todo in Whitby , historically visit the Abbey or lots of Captain Cook history to delve into. It is also a place for walking. You can walk to Robin Hoods Bay by a coastal route or take the bus. There are many other places nearby Staithes,Scarborough,Goatland...The beach is beautiful and very clean and inviting. As far as restaurants are concerned I think there are too many that do FishnChips .We didn’t see any Italian or Chinese etc So food places a bit disappointing unless you want chips every night!

Owner Response:Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay with us, we are so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Whitehaven and enjoyed Whitby, we are sorry about your experience with restaurants, it is true there are many fish and chip outlets but there are some very good restaurants offering different Fayre tucked away, waiting to be discovered, these do include Indian, Thai, Tapas, Mediterranean, Italian, Chinese and French cuisine, unfortunately during your visit several of these restaurants were closed temporarily due to Covid. We do hope you will visit again in the future and give these restaurants a try. Kind regards Simon & Lane

A warm welcome from Simon & Lane and a good explanation of how they're operating in the current Covid environment. Our double room was small but we were fully aware of that at the time of booking. The freshly made breakfasts were excellent & the premises was spotlessly clean throughout. B&B ideally situated for a walk down into Whitby or out to the West Cliff area for a bracing walk. We'd love to return in the future so keep up the great work!
Tips:You've got to visit all the main attractions & just take in the ambience of Whitby which was pleasantly busy. Getting on the local buses & trains wasn't a problem & gets you out & about without needing to take the car. In these current covid times getting an evening meal in the town needs a little more thought and not all venues would book a table at a specific time, it tended to be you left your number for a callback. It generally wasn't an issue for us but could be for a family.

The dining room had a lovely friendly and welcoming feeling because of both of you and your staff. The room was well appointed and useful to have space under the bed for suitcases. We would be happy to use the same towels for the duration of our stay to reduce the cost and use of electricity/ your workload etc, so maybe you could offer the option to your visitors. The cooked breakfast was excellent and I'll do a trip adviser review next to say that. Very tasty and well-cooked and very different from one I tasted a few days later elsewhere!!
Tips:The location is ideal for the Whitby Folk Festival which we thoroughly enjoyed attending this year for the first time. Found the Whitby Jet workshop very interesting and loved everything about Whitby including the views, the platform bar at the station and the Italian restaurant, Cosa Nostra. Would also highly recommend the Forest Segway experience at Go Ape at Dalby Forest. Great fun even for folk in their 60s, one of whom was very nervous about the whole idea!

A very high standard of cleanliness throughout the building. Simon was very attentive ensuring that we were well catered for. We got caught in a terrible storm walking back to the B&B and Simon asked if he could put our very wet clothes in the dryer. Thank you for a lovely relaxing stay in a beautiful B&B, which is a credit to all your hard work. Well done and thank you

This was our first visit to the Whitehaven. We could not fault this in any way. Simon was very welcoming on our arrival. The whole place is is exceptionally clean. Our room was really nice and comfy. The bathroom was small but adequate and very clean. Breakfast was exceptional one of the best we have had whilst travelling around. We will definitely stay again and will highly recommend to family and friends.
Tips:We always visit Trenchers fish restaurant on the harbour, the food and service is excellent. We tried Mr Chips on this occasion and this was also excellent.

The Whitehaven is friendly, clean and warm, offering a good breakfast and comfortable beds with little noise. The owners were nice and able to offer local recommendations. Only a 10-15 minute walk into the main harbour area, and you can go either via the pavilion and the whale bones or past Pannett's Park down.
Tips:Most of the local restaurants require prior booking as they get very full. I would recommend the White Horse and Griffin for a nice meal out, although it is pricier. The Passage to India and Kam Thai are nice as a difference to fish and pub fare. A walk up to the Abbey is a must for the view.

Lovely base for exploring the delightful town of Whitby. Upon arrival we received a very warm welcome and our stay was a very pleasant experience, overall a very good B and B.
Tips:Fish and chips in Whitby is a must as is the walk up the 199 steps for those fit enough ( we are not very fit but made it without any fuss). If it's raining then the museum in the park is superb, well curated and quirky, kids will love the place, there are dinosaurs, disembodied hands, narwhal tusks, ships in bottles, weather stations that work by the power of leeches and hundreds of other weird and wonderful exhibits.

As you are aware we have stayed with you on at least six occasions. I think that speaks for itself. Despite the walk to the Spa we still choose to stay at Whitehaven even when we could book nearer (hence the 4 for location). Cleanliness I can not fault nor the service and the only thing that would improve facilities is if you were to serve an evening meal.

From the minute we arrived we were made welcome in this warm friendly Guest House. The room was immaculate - the standard of cleanliness is the highest we have experienced. We had a separate (private) bathroom and toilet which we actually preferred as it was like having our own suite. The choice of breakfast was excellent and well presented by pleasant staff. The rooms are tidied every day which is unusual in a Guest House - the facilities were spotless. The hosts are happy to chat and supply local information. We would certain stay there again.
Tips:We love the friendliness of the Black Horse in town and also The Middle Earth Tavern. Eat at The White Hirse and Griffin - great menu .

Very friendly, helpful and hospitable owners! Very clean, well decorated rooms, with beautiful colour co-ordinated rooms. well presented high quality soft furnishings and towels. Satalite TV and choice of many channels which was very good also. The owners were Very accomodating with our special dietary requirements and were very helpful with any problems we had.
Tips:If you are on a special diet, I learnt that we needed to do the research where to eat and what restaurants were suitable for our dietary needs. Would avoid 'Stables' restaurant for quality, choice of food and quality of food. was expensive and the customer service was very poor. Mr Chippies was good, but a bit, as was the horse shoe in Egton Bridge.

We are sorry about the shaver socket in the en-suite, there is one located on the underside of the en-suite mirror along with the mirror light sensor switch, we normally show guests where these are located but on this occasion this was overlooked so please except our apologies. We hope you will visit Whitehaven again in the future. Kind regards Simon & Lane
