Wonderful people, very attentive but not intrusive. Well furnished rooms, very comfortable bed. Spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast choices. Tea and coffee making facility in your room. Excellent shower and toilet room with quality products supplied. A lovely quiet area but just a few minutes from the cliff top or the town centre in the opposite direction. Many repeat customers including us! See you next time.

Absolutely first class accommodation! Spotlessly clean , Breakfast is superb and lots of choice , it’s freshly cooked and served perfectly. The rooms are extremely comfortable with perfect en-suite facilities. Peter and Manetta are the perfect hosts you arrive as guest and leave as friends, have been staying at Sandpiper House now for the last 10 years and would highly recommend!

Recommend The fisherman’s wife restaurant not just for excellent fish and chips but also various seafood options. Would also recommend Cosa Nostra Italian restaurant for superb Italian cuisine.

From the moment we arrived Pete made us very welcome, such a very friendly person who really wants you to have a great stay. The room was very spacious and very comfortable bed. Every day you have a sheet to tick what you would like for breakfast and all cooked fresh. Pete showed us where to park and we didn’t need to move car. Would I recommend or stay here again definitely. Thanks Pete very enjoyable couple of days.

As explained by Pete turn left to end of street, down the hill and your on the harbour front. Turn right to end of street and your by the whale bones then down the steps to the start of the pier. Do not miss Trenches for fish and chips, best ever ever tasted.

We had another superb stay at the Sandpiper. Our hosts couldn’t have been more helpful during our stay. The cooked breakfast being something to set you up for the day. We will definitely be back again to such a lovely peaceful guest house. A real gem in Whitby.

For the real ale lovers try “ Beer O Clock” on Flowergate or climb the 199 steps and on to the Whitby Abbey Brewery, who also make amazing pizzas as well as some outstanding beers.

Very warm welcome by Peter the host who was available for help and advice when needed. The building was well maintained and keep spotless clean. The room was well furnished and allowed very comfortable rest to be had to enjoy the locality with the premises being very convenient for the local town. Parking was a bonus with allocated space or street parking permit that was convenient for the premises. Would wholeheartedly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Whitby.

The Magpie restaurant (Peters recommendations) is superb for fish. Clearly the Abbey and Goathland are well worth a visit but the quaint cobbled streets and alleyways are well worth exploring.

We have stayed at The Sandpiper numerous times. We love it. The location is great for us. Peter & Manetta are the perfect hosts. Always very accommodating. There is parking on site and off site which is brilliant. Parking in Whitby is not so good. We have stayed in virtually most rooms. All of a high standard. Tea/coffee making facilities. And shower gel, body lotions supplied. The breakfasts are beautifully prepared and presented. As much tea/coffee as you want and toast. The Sandpiper is a welcoming place to stay. Highly recommend 👌

The Granby, just down the road, is a typical Whitby pub serving nice pub grub. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants to try.

A sublime stay at Sandpiper. Breakfasts are excellent, really first class. Pete and all concerned do a stupendous job. From the cleanliness to the fact we could avoid all the scramble of trying to find somewhere to park by using the owners drive makes this place an absolute cracker. Book direct on their website-10% cheaper

Velveteen restaurant-book well in advance. It’s a proper French restaurant with Jean Claude as the owner. Make no bones about it, it is not cheap but utterly superb in every detail.

We dined at the ‘Magpie Cafe’ and the ‘Passage to Indian’. Both can be recommended for their good food and customer service. The ‘Arch & Abbey’ micro pub was very welcoming and served a wide selection of craft beers, real ales, wines and gins etc. Two of the must-see attractions in Whitby, are climbing the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. The panoramic views are amazing. Also, the Whale-bone arch is an interesting area to visit with excellent view points. Flat comfortable shoes are essential for the cobbled, characterful streets of Whitby. Enjoy!

Amazing bed and breakfast. Rooms are spacious and clean and quiet location. Peter and Manetta are brilliant hosts and the breakfast is amazing. Love the form you fill in day before to order your breakfast. Extremely tasty and very hot breakfast. Lovely fresh products used. Can't fault our numerous stays and would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Whitby. Communication is very good before the stay. Easy to book the stay on their website.

Granby hotel down the road from sandpiper do a superb roast any night. Trenchers on the harbour do lovely fish and chips.

Pete and Manetta are very friendly and chatty. We were late checking in but it was no problem for them. We booked one of the rooms with a car parking space so it was really convenient. The room itself was spotless and beautifully presented. The bathroom was fully stocked with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. There was also a robe to wear which is a really lovely touch. There's a really good choice for breakfast and it was utterly delicious. The breakfast room had been renovated so it's even better than the photos portray.

There's plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants in walking distance. If you would like an evening meal I would highly recommend that you book in advance of your stay because places can get booked up very quickly. Pizza West is very close to the B&B it was a bit expensive but as a one off its a good place to eat.

Another amazing stay at this beautiful B&B. You will not find a more welcoming guest house. Peter and Manetta are the absolute perfect hosts.The rooms are beautifully decorated and stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Beds are very comfortable. Breakfasts are to a very high standard and set you up for the day ahead. Peter and Manetta give great tips on the local areas and go above and beyond to make your stay a really, really pleasant one. We'll be back again later in the year.

Ditto restaurant on Skinner Street is amazing, but do book in advance. Whitby brewery (at the back of the Abbey) has a great selection of drinks and you can order a very tasty,freshly made on-site pizza while there. The Fisherman's Wife served a very nice medium portion of haddock and chips (note- it's an extra £1.99 for mushy peas, curry sauce)

Peter and Manetta are amazing hosts. They go above and beyond to make sure your stay in whitby/The Sandpiper is as comfortable and relaxing as they can. The Sandpiper is a gorgeous homely place to stay in whitby. The rooms are so comfortable and immaculate. Breakfasts are amazing with a good selection to choose from. We have stayed here numerous times and have enjoyed every minute. We will hopefully be back again soon.

The Sandpiper is ideally located around 5 minutes walk from the high St leading down to the harbour, where you will find lots of different shops bar's and restaurants. On certain weeks and weekends there's a lot of different events taking place. From steampunk/Goth Weekends, pirate weekends. Whitby regatta, folk week, Northern Sole, and much more. Something for everyone.

Peter & Manetta are fantastic hosts, super friendly and very helpful. Excellent breakfast, proper fresh fruit! Perfectly poached eggs, everything else good quality produce and cooked to perfection. Very comfy bed, nice big room, great shower, nice and warm. Only downside was not having a view of the harbour or the abbey but no big deal. Highly recommended.

Mr Chips or Trenchers for fish & chips. The Edge restaurant also good. Jet Black Jewel for coffee and cake.

A very friendly and clean B & B. The owners, Manetta & Peter couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was always on time and well cooked. You couldn't wish for more. There are two parking spaces around the back of the building, but if they are full, they issue you with parking permits.

Shops restaurants pubs and cafes were a 5 minute walk away. In the other direction, the headland with views over the piers was only two minutes away.

We felt very welcome from the minute we came in ,rooms are lovely bright and airy and comfortable with everything you need .Breakfast was delicious and the Peter and manette where the perfect hosts definitely recommend to everyone.

The vault for Sunday lunch is just down the road but you need to book .Only 10 mins walk and you are down on the front plenty of places to eat and drink we ate at abbey wharf on the other side lovely but gets very busy .Got to have a walk up to the abbey gets the heart pumping and boat trips are reasonable at £5 each .

Manetta and Peter are lovely hosts, they are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfast is pre-ordered the night before. It was delicious and freshly cooked each morning. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in.

The Sandpiper is just a short stroll away from the harbour, train station and all the shops, cafe's, restaurants and bars. Its also convenient for a walk along the top of the cliffs.

Very welcoming hose and our room (5) was lovely. As an added touch you get a lovely robe to use. The breakfast is amazing, freshly cooked to order and nothing is too much trouble for them. Would definitely stay here again.

The best tip I can give is to take some ear plugs as the sea gulls are so noisy from 3am onwards.

The best hosts ever! Pete and Manetta were so welcoming, friendly and attentive. They definitely went that extra mile to ensure that our stay was perfect - as other reviewers have commented - absolutely nothing was too much trouble for them. Their breakfasts were wonderful. We savoured the salmon and scrambled eggs and their cooked breakfast - all cooked to perfection. Their granola with Greek yoghurt and fresh fruit salad were to die for!! If you want to be pampered for a few days, The Sandpiper House is the place to go.

You're able to leave your car parked at the hotel and, if you're relatively mobile on your feet, you can slowly walk around Whitby. There are a few quaint shops just down the road but more shops in the town centre. I needed to have a wash and blowdry after a long hot car journey and was able to book an appointment at Colour Me just down the road. They were very nice and reasonably priced at £16. Emma's Diner was a lovely experience (they're an American Diner and we enjoyed chilli dogs). Kam Thai were lovely and we asked for their red curry to be slightly hotter, together with the pad Thai, they were delicious and just the right heat. You have to have Whitby scampi and The Fisherman's Wife did not disappoint. A lovely restaurant just a short walk from our hotel which overlooked the sea. Their prawn cocktail, scampi, haddock and cod were gorgeous. The batter was light and crisp and the chips were cooked perfectly. Nothing was soggy or greasy. We then ventured to Robin Hood Bay which was lovely BUT it is a very steep and windy walk down. We were able to bring our car down halfway a narrow road to pick me and daughter up because we have mobility problems, but it wasn't easy. If you can get there for the views, it's worth it. Then we drove to Scarborough. We avoided the funfair part but went on the miniature train ride from Peasholm and got off at Scalby Mill. We slowly made our way down to the beach (which is wheelchair accessible via a long ramp) and the Seaview was breathtaking. However, beware there are no places to eat there - only shops selling ice cream - so pack a picnic if you intend staying on the beach for a while. After returning by train to Peasholm, we then ventured across the road to Peasholm park. It is very pretty with a lake and pagoda. The cafe closes at 3.30 though. We drove around to find other places but missed out due to very limited parking - blue badge spaces got snapped up very quickly. We loved Whitby - it is a quintessentially English seaside town and to top it all - we had the perfect weather. It was hot and sunny the entire time.

Had our 4th stay here. Manetta and Pete are great hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them.The rooms are spotless. The breakfast menu is extensive and delicious. Can’t recommend The Sandpiper enough. Have booked again for next year.

Last week we had another great stay at the Sandpiper. Convenient, central location,large ensuite rooms with comfortable beds.Well cooked breakfast and Manetta's and Peter's excellent company. What's not to like ?

The two places that we used for an evening meal were Ditto just down the road from the Sandpiper, excellent food and very welcoming. Trenchers fish restaurant down by the coop store . Fast quick service and excellent fish and chips and a stylish environment, staff very friendly. We have been here many times and always enjoyed our food and visit

A lovely welcome, so helpful with parking and directions to the attractions. Breakfast was a pre-order sheet with a great choice, and when it was presented, it was amazing. Fresh fruit, lovely yoghurt and granola, and piping hot cooked breakfast. Room was lovely with a very comfy bed and great shower. Nothing was too much trouble.

Great location a couple of streets back from the whale bone arch. Easy to walk into the centre but would not recommend heels. Flat shoes are a must. Great selection of pubs, bars and restaurants. We were advised to book a restaurant in advance for the Saturday night, so we booked Cosa Nostra, which we can thoroughly recommend. Easy to walk around and plenty to see.

We have just returned from our annual visit to the Sandpiper. Peter and Manetta are perfect hosts and the Runswick Suite in particular is lovely with bath and walk-in shower and really comfy bed. The breakfasts are beautifully cooked with plenty of choice. The Sandpiper is ideally situated on the West cliff side with either on site parking or free permits provided. It is the best b and b we have ever stayed in.

Very welcoming hosts. They really couldn’t do enough for us. The place was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast selection and quality of the ingredients were fantastic! The scrabbled eggs were soft and creamy, perfectly poached egg, there was nothing to dislike.

On the same road is the Arch and Abbey pub with a varied choice of real ales, craft beers and gins. Short walk from the beautiful Pannett Park.

Peter and Manetta were absolutely lovely. Pete was so attentive during breakfast which was top class. Our room was beautiful and had two nights in a really comfortable bed. We were greeted with a warm smile then showed where to park our car before we were given our keys to the beautiful king size room we stayed in which was nipping clean and super comfortable. The shower gel and shampoo..the holder in the shower is a bit inconvenient to press it when sat in the basket holder as it moves. Peter & Manetta are the perfect hosts, so friendly & welcoming with nothing being to much trouble for them. The room we had was spotlessly clean, much larger than expected & very tastefully decorated, including a huge bed that was so comfortable. It had a beautifully decorated large bathroom with separate double walk in shower with standalone bath. The breakfast menu had so many choices with each that we tried being cooked to perfection with top quality ingredients that tasted lovely. All in all we had a fantastic Easter weekend in Whitby which has some lovely scenery, historic sites, restaurants & bars etc & I would highly recommend Sandpiper House as base for a stay there.

If you are planning to visit Whitby it is best to book restaurants on line before arriving as they are very popular. We had fabulous fish & chips at Magpies, where customers who hadn't booked were queuing down the street. The Granby Pub just down from Sandpiper House provides a good range of pub grub to suit all tastes at reasonable prices & we had a fabulous Sunday Lunch at the Ship Inn just around the corner from the Granby.

Walks - steady type is Whitby to Sandsend - active type is Sandsend to Runswick Bay, very active is Whitby to RH Bay (coastal, not cinder path) - stunning scenery.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you both. I was given a warm welcome when we arrived and felt at home straight away. The room we were given was amazing - thanks for the upgrade. We were actually celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary hence the reason I was a bit under the weather on Sunday so didn't have my breakfast (Malcolm ate it so it didn't go to waste). However, on Monday, I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast, it set us up for the day. Thanks again for your hospitality and we would have no hesitation in coming back.

This guest house is near all attractions, although up a hill, which some people might not like. No problem for us. We had a lovely meal at The Moon and Sixpence on Sunday night - the food was lovely as was the staff - we were made very welcome. We visited a few pubs on Saturday (we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and it had to be done) - The Buick and The Ship where we were made most welcome.

We had a lovely welcome by Peter. Our room was a good size, very clean and tastefully decorated, plenty of tea/coffee and bathroom toiletries to hand. Breakfast had a large choice on the menu and was delicious. Nothing you might want would be too much trouble. Dining room was spacious and bright. We have been to whitby many times and this is by far the best place we have stayed and we will definitely be using the sandpiper for our future visits and will be recommending it to friends and family.

Warm friendly hosts from check in to check out. The room was spotless and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was ideal for a few days away and was well stocked with toiletries. The only thing that could of improved the stay would be slightly darker blinds but not a big issue.

Get a yellow bus ticket and do the 40min tour to get your bearings. You then get to hop on and off for 24 hours plus there are some vouchers with the leaflet. The pie and mash shop was really good and worth a try. I wouldn't go in the Abbey you can have a great look at it from outside.

Always a pleasure to visit Sandpiper House and enjoy Peter and Manetta's hospitality. This was our 4th visit in the last couple of years and we have never been disappointed. Always spotlessly clean and tidy and the cooked breakfasts are superb. Free parking is available at the rear of the building which is very convenient.

My wife and I had fish and chips at Hadley's on Friday night and a superb meal at the Magpie on Saturday evening. Breathtaking views of the town can be enjoyed once you have climbed the 199 steps up to the Abbey and a walk around St Mary's Church is recommended. Lots of history to take in and a visit to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum was a real treat.

Dave&Debs from Bolton Stay here every year, sometimes twice a year, wouldn't stay anywhere else now. Peter & Manetta are the friendliest loveliest hosts anyone could ask for. The Breakfasts are to die for, nothing is too much trouble for them, they just want all their guests to be happy and they succeed in their quest. The rooms are absolutely spotless and beautiful and it's in perfect location.

As soon as we're greeted when we get there & drop our cases off in our room we head straight up to Clara's on the sea front on the west cliff near the whale bones (a short walk to the top of the street from sandpiper)for a coffee or an ice cream. A short walk down to the bottom of the street from Sandpiper takes you to all the bars, restaurants and shops, perfect Holiday every time we visit, our happy place.

My room, the Runswick was a shock at first. As I looked around, the bedding,the cushions, the blinds, were all the same Laura Ashley, as I have at home.Peter and manetta are wonderful hosts. The breakfasts are amazing, served in a the room downstairs. Attention to detail left nothing to question. My en suite included huge walk in shower and fabulous bath. Soaps, creams are quality products. Immaculate white towels. The whole experience would difficult to top.

Magpie Kamthai,Cosa Nostra all good places to eat. Some very pleasant little bars to search out.the ruins of the Abbey, atop the 199 steps needs to be experienced. Make sure you find Caedmons obelisk.

Exceptional owners, food, facilities and information. This place is a definitely the place to stay in Whitby. The owners were so kind and went above and beyond for you. The property is within minutes of the harbour with a nice local pub down the road. All in all the stay was perfect and couldn't fault it one bit, the rooms were spotless and so comfortable you felt at home. The breakfast has a wonderful array of options to choose from. The food was exceptional. We did not have to move our car once through out the duration of the stay, the lovely owners reserved us a spot and gave us a permit throughout the duration of the stay and on our last day let us continue using it for a couple hours as we had a restaurant booked in for 12:00. This was so kind of them and won't be forgotten. I will definitely be coming back to this amazing place and will recommend it to anyone who is going Whitby. 11/10 would SERIOUSLY recommend.

Book restaurants in advance especially magpies which was amazing. Papas fish and chip shop is also another to try as BBCs “best rated” fish and chip shop. The abbey is within walking distance of the Sandpiper house- no car needed to travel when there are such great walks. Definitely worth going to have a look at all the rich history of the abbey and surrounding sights.

Lovely welcome from the hosts, Pete and Manetta. Ground floor room with ensuite shower, with most powerful shower I think we've encountered - great stuff! Lovely breakfast choices, from fresh fruit salad, granola with Greek yoghurt, full English medleys, smoked salmon, smoked haddock, porridge (and any combo of the above!) plus coffees, teas, toast, etc. Set up for the day! Only slight downside is parking, as all permit locally, so Pete gave us permits to park anywhere in zone W, which can mean you may be several streets away before a space is found but we were fine as we didn't use the car that much.

Plenty to do in & around Whitby. There's the Abbey (of course!) plus good local walks (see the tourist info centre near the station for ideas) a local museum, which is very interesting - esp if you like local fossil hunting! Plenty of local restaurants, mainly fish and seafood based but there are also Indian, Mexican and Italian. Fish & chips is a must, of course! Do visit the likes of Staithes (11 miles up the coast) and Robin Hood's Bay (7 miles down) - both of which are lovely plus within either walking, car or bus distance easily. Take a harbour boat trip or maybe a longer trip along the coast? North York Moors Railway also runs at some times from Whitby, oryou can drive up to Grosmont and pick up from there.

We can't praise The Sandpiper highly enough. Peter and Manetta are lovely hosts and it is the best b and b hotel we have stayed in anywhere. See you next year.

Absolutely delightful as always, lovely decor and spotlessly clean. Warm welcome from hosts Peter and Manetta, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else. We stayed in room 5, enormous comfy bed, spacious room with ample storage (I pack the kitchen sink) and large bathroom with walk in shower. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room, hairdryer provided and magnifying mirror (nice touch, my eyes aren’t what they used to be). Breakfast is delicious and nothing is too much trouble. Parking space to rear of B&B so no struggle for a parking spot. We really look forward to our visits and to seeing Peter and Manetta again it’s just perfect, thank you.

Manetta and Peter are the beating heart of this guest house. They cannot do enough for you,friendly courteous, and a breakfast to die for. Extremely comfortable rooms ,5 minutes from town centre and beach. But don't forget about the breakfast!!!

There is a choice of restaurants within easy walking distance, but it definitely pays to book.
